This is an incredible opportunity but also such a great fit for our project. Since the start of Hoioh, we've really been playing with design and our inner child. :)

Artipelag presents this fall's major international design exhibition – INNER CHILD: Playing with Design
This autumn, Artipelag presents an exhibition with 100 designers, curated by internationally renowned trend analyst Lidewij Edelkoort and curator Philip Fimmano. What the participating designers have in common is their exploration of the inner child as a creative force. Through playful design and handmade objects, the visitor is invited to a world where free imagination is at the center, as a countermovement to the emotional turbulence and new technology of our time. The exhibition is produced exclusively for Artipelag and will be on display between October 10, 2026 and April 11, 2027.
INNER CHILD: Playing with Design is presented as a story in eight thematic chapters that celebrate joy, hope, naive simplicity and pure imagination. The objects on display at Artipelag reflect a return to analog techniques, the joy of using imagination and making things by hand.
The exhibition's playful design for adults includes everything from worlds built from colorful blocks to seeking the embrace of soft textiles, reflecting how today's creative practitioners are rediscovering their younger selves through their creations.
– The exhibition explores the boundless expression of creativity and reminds us of how important it is to keep the child within us. Through works by established designers and emerging creators, INNER CHILD: Playing with Design provides an uplifting boost of hope, say the curators.
The inner child has been studied both as a psychological phenomenon and as a metaphor for the subconscious, childlike aspects of adult personality, emotions and memories. In INNER CHILD: Playing with Design, the connection to the inner child also becomes a way to find faith in the future in a turbulent and uncertain time.
– The exhibition is an international investigation of design and imagination as a creative force in our challenging times. Being able to present such an extensive project, together with Lidewij Edelkoort and Philip Fimmano and with a hundred leading designers and artists from different parts of the world, clearly demonstrates our ambition to highlight international voices and trends in design and art in Sweden, says Artipelag's newly appointed museum director Dragana Kusoffsky Maksimović.
The exhibition presents some of the leading designers and artists within this movement, including Maarten Baas, Harvey Bouterse, Front, Yinka Ilori, Max Lamb, Humberto da Mata, Kusheda Mensah, Nick Ross, Gustaf Westman, Victoria Yakusha, Pierre Yovanovitch – and many others.
The exhibition scenography was created by an entire family – the Dutch designer couple Kiki van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk and their two children, Ko and Puk. The unusual collaboration between parents and children gives the exhibition its playful and imaginative expression.
– This will be a unique and unexpected collaboration that will give the visitor a surprising spatial experience, say the curators.
